Professor Sinistra,
I know you must be incredibly busy with final exams this week, but I was wondering if I might stop by next week during your office hours to ask about your recommendations for further reading this summer? Katrina Fitzgibbon and I are hoping to continue our project in Arithmancy over summer to see if we can expand it for our OWLs level work, and you've been so helpful about pointing me to additional sources, and I'd like to think about possible projects for Astronomy too.
I enjoyed your class very much this term.
Sincerely,
Evelyn Longbottom

Date: 2014-06-05 03:56 pm (UTC)You're quite welcome to come up. Frankly, if you're free tonight or tomorrow afternoon, I suspect a break from marking would be good for me. Or of course, the posted hours next week, or suggest something else.
I'm always glad to encourage further reading. I do make up a packet of OWL materials for anyone who's interested, and I can give you that, but if you've specific topics you're interested in, I can either duplio some specific articles or have the references handy.
I also have the list of the likely lectures for the Guild's summer projects. Most of them are likely to be a bit over your head yet (there seems to be a taste for extremely fiddly work this year) but there's one or two you might find interesting if you're interested.

Date: 2014-06-05 09:55 pm (UTC)But yes, I would like to learn more about the lectures this summer, and the things I've been reading about locational magic sound like they would tie in just really well with the project Fitz and I are doing, so perhaps we could talk some more about that too?

Date: 2014-06-05 11:14 pm (UTC)My NEWT research project was on the effects of highly magical places on locational magic (using Hogwarts as a prime example, of course), and then I did a contract project for the Guild the year before I started teaching here about calculating measurements and effects at different points. (I covered Wales, other people did other places in the Protectorate.)
Anyway, I haven't done as much with it recently as I'd like, but I do keep up with the published works, and I'll put some copies together for you. Stop up when you'd like, whether that's tomorrow after your exams or next week.
