That's quite a tricky bit of magic at the Library doors. I think I might've blocked the entrance for a while without meaning to, because I was trying to sort out how it was done. Has anyone else tried to go to the library yet today? It's easy enough to guess what one ought to say.

It's very interesting, seeing all the things people have been creating. I've heard rumours that there'll be some things outside later today, I hope it doesn't happen during classes so I can see what it is.

Oh! I'm glad I didn't miss the skywriting! I hope it stays up for a while yet, so everyone can see it (it's hard to miss, just look up), but watching it being written was quite fun.

Thank you for the appreciation! I might have known that another aspiring Arithmantist-in-training would notice. Some of the finer points involved in locational magic and area effects are really quite interesting. I hadn't fully appreciated the utility of combining Arithmancy and Astronomy before this past year.

I hadn't thought about how locational magics would factor in, but of course they would, wouldn't they? And you'd have to factor in all of the protective magic already in place, and it must've taken ages to make sure it'd work. It's quite elegant, really.

Well, yes, it rather did take all night. In the end, the effect was quite worth it. The tricky bit was putting in the small compulsion spell with the visual and auditory effect using the Ouroborous, but having it only affect people who entered the space just before the doorway rather than everyone who passed through the corridor. If you spent time examining it, you may have noticed that the audibility of the greeting does not extend beyond the space where someone about to enter the library would hear it.

And of course it needed not to be audible within the library itself. It wouldn't do to annoy Madam Pince, you see, not to mention everyone else inside.

When are you taking it down? If you wouldn't mind terribly, I'd be interested in observing.

Or are you intending for it to stay up?

I shall be removing it at the very end of the day tomorrow, as that's the close of the first Challenge. If you would like to observe, I don't see why that would be a problem. Although it will be quite late, you should be fine as you will have a Prefect in attendance, as it were!

If you like this sort of thing, you might consider talking with Professor Sinistra about the uses of Astronomy with Arithmancy. I really had no idea of the possibilities until I served detentions spoke with her, and it's quite fascinating. This summer I hope to obtain an internship at the Ministry of Transportation -- unless the Astronomy Guild needs me again. (Guild Master Bright is one of the great scholars of our day, I must say.)
